Youth Gangs Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Contemporary Paper on Youth Gangs Introduction Gangs have been heard of long before the days of Stanley “Tookie” Williams, who was one of the most heard of notorious gangsters and also the organizer/founder of one of the first gangs, “The Crips” originating in the South Central Los Angeles area in 1971. Although gang activity has spread worldwide, I feel the need to discuss the issues with the youth gangs in Los Angeles of yesterday and today, since that’s where the activity began. The History of gangs in LA As stated earlier, “Crip” gang activity started in 1971, in the South Central Los Angeles area by a young man from New Orleans, Louisiana by the name of Stanley “Tookie” Williams III. The gang was formed to protect their neighborhoods, which was a “copy-cat saga” of “The Black Panthers” The gang began feuding, murdering, stealing, and robbing. Soon, those neighborhood gangs began branching off into separate gangs under the “Crip” label. The “Bloods” were formed by a “Neighborhood Crip” gang (origination unknown).
